Adelaide lacrosse community supports 5-year-old girl with leukemia
The lacrosse community in Adelaide, South Australia, has organized a fundraiser to support the family of five-year-old Margot Winnen, who was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia.
According to ABC News Australia, the girl was taken for examinations after she complained of severe abdominal pain and was unable to move. A blood test showed unexpected results, after which Margot was transferred to the Women’s and Children’s Hospital, where the diagnosis was made.
Margot immediately began a course of chemotherapy and remains in hospital. Her father, Jesse Winnen, said the child is to undergo four courses of treatment, while her stay at the medical facility may last several months.

The Winnen family plays for the local Sturt Lacrosse Club. A charity event, Stick It 2 Leukaemia, was held in Brighton in their support and was attended by hundreds of people. A GoFundMe page created to help the family has raised more than $63,000.
Lacrosse South Australia director Tracey Metwin said support for the family is coming from all over the world. According to her, the international organization World Lacrosse has also joined the effort.
