Hong Kong establishes cancer prevention fund — ECNS

In Hong Kong, a special administrative region of China, the international charity ISOPT Charitable Foundation was established on September 23 to work on the prevention and control of cancer. As ECNS reports, the foundation plans to organize between 5,000 and 10,000 free examinations for people at increased risk of developing cancer.

Free examinations

Under the free cancer screening support program, Hong Kong residents at increased risk of developing cancer who meet the program’s requirements will be able to undergo examinations for breast, lung, liver and prostate cancer.

The foundation was jointly established by the ISOPT International Society for the Prevention and Treatment of Cancer and the Hong Kong Association for External Friendship. Its launch also marked the start of the Hong Kong Anti-Cancer Campaign and a cancer prevention project for countries and regions partnering in the Belt and Road Initiative.

Exchange of experience

Ronald Lam Man-kin, director of the Department of Health of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, said in a video address that Hong Kong can be a “super connector” in advancing China’s cancer prevention strategy and global health cooperation.

Foundation Chairman Lam Shun-chiu said that the organization seeks to raise public awareness of cancer prevention and share Hong Kong’s experience with countries and regions that are partners in the Belt and Road Initiative.
