Comcast has expanded security features for Xfinity Internet users

The American company Comcast has expanded its home security offerings with the Xfinity Shield platform, available to Xfinity Internet customers. It combines Wi-Fi-based protection, cybersecurity tools, and parental controls within the Xfinity app.

According to Channel NewsAsia, citing Reuters, the basic version of Xfinity Shield is available to Xfinity Internet subscribers at no additional charge. An optional add-on for $15 per month includes an indoor camera, a door and window sensor, cloud video storage, and 24/7 emergency response.

Comcast stated that the average Xfinity customer connects 36 devices to Wi-Fi. According to the company, its network detects, filters, and blocks an average of 30 million threats every day.

The platform also includes the WiFi Motion feature. It uses the Xfinity Gateway—the central device of the home network—and other connected devices to detect motion within the home. Comcast noted that the service is powered by artificial intelligence capabilities in the network and the gateway. Comcast’s head of product, Fraser Stirling, told Reuters that the company aims to significantly lower the barrier to using the comprehensive Xfinity Shield security service.
