China has allowed a private company to test satellite-based Internet of Things services
China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has authorized Zhejiang Geespace to conduct a two-year commercial trial of satellite Internet of Things services. This decision marks another step toward opening this sector to private companies, according to ECNS.
To provide these services, Zhejiang Geespace will use the first phase of the “Geely Future Mobility Constellation.” It is designed to provide broad coverage, reliable connectivity, and low power consumption for IoT devices.

The services are intended for all-weather smart data collection and remote interaction. Among the areas of application cited are smart transportation, marine fisheries, energy, and water resource management.
The ministry stated that satellite-based Internet of Things could become an important addition to China’s satellite broadband internet amid the accelerating commercialization of the satellite communications industry. The authorization is expected to stimulate the private sector and support the development of China’s commercial space industry.
