IFC to finance construction of Hampton by Hilton hotel in Accra — MyJoyOnline
The International Finance Corporation (IFC), part of the World Bank Group, will provide long-term financing to PLP Properties Ltd. for the development of a 170-room Hampton by Hilton hotel near the international airport in Accra, Ghana. According to MyJoyOnline, the project is expected to create 990 direct and indirect jobs, including 200 permanent positions.
First Hilton hotel in Ghana
Hampton by Hilton Accra Airport may become the first Hilton hotel to open in Ghana, as well as one of the first Hampton by Hilton properties in West Africa. It is expected to expand the availability of international midscale hotels for business and leisure travel in Accra.
The source notes that most international hotel brands in the local market currently operate in the upper price segment. The new property is also expected to create opportunities for local suppliers.

The hotel is expected to procure goods and services from Ghanaian companies, including small and medium-sized enterprises. IFC believes this will help strengthen domestic production chains and retain a larger share of the economic value generated by tourism in Ghana.
Project energy efficiency
The project aims to obtain EDGE Advanced certification, IFC's green building standard. The building is being designed to use at least 40% less energy and 20% less water than a conventional building. It also provides for a reduction in embodied carbon emissions in construction materials.
According to the data cited in the article, tourism and travel accounted for about 5.7% of Ghana's gross domestic product in 2024 and supported more than 800,000 jobs. IFC expects that the development of midscale hotel infrastructure will support the tourism industry, employment, and economic activity.
