Sonova unveils Phonak EON AI hearing aid platform
Swiss company Sonova unveiled Phonak EON on August 24 — its third hearing aid platform using artificial intelligence in real time. The first launch took place in the United States. In mid-September, the platform is planned to be introduced in Australia and key European countries — Germany, France, Italy and the United Kingdom — before being rolled out globally.
Smaller device and speech processing
According to Channel NewsAsia, citing Reuters, Sonova's head of research and development Anders Rosengren said Phonak EON offers a smaller and lighter device. According to him, the improved AI is intended to make speech twice as understandable and reduce the effort required for listening.
In 2024, Sonova was the first to introduce a hearing aid that used real-time AI to separate speech from background noise. In the industry, rapid technology updates are used to shorten device replacement cycles and attract new users.

Premium positioning
Sonova president for Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Latin America Oliver Lux said the company expects EON to spread quickly among customers replacing devices and new buyers. The company did not disclose the platform's price, but Lux said it is expected to support Sonova's premium positioning at launch.
The launch of EON could become an important factor in achieving Sonova's medium-term growth targets, which sparked investor skepticism in March. The company also sees positive market momentum, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region and Latin America. Under CEO Eric Bernard, who took office in September last year, Sonova calls the Asia-Pacific region one of its key growth areas and aims to increase sales volumes and its presence in markets with aging populations there.
