As explained by Dmytro Lyushkin, founder and CEO of the Prime Group, there are various types of fuel on the market. There are quite a few mini-refineries operating in Ukraine that produce diesel and gasoline, so there is no shortage of substitute products, especially in the gasoline segment. The situation is better with diesel fuel.
At the same time, according to the expert, large chains often capitalize on concerns about the quality of cheap fuel to retain customers.
The expert advises using the gas station that the driver has trusted for years. People usually know their area well and are familiar with who sells what kind of fuel. Word of mouth also works: drivers can suggest where to find high-quality fuel.
You shouldn’t rely solely on the quality certificates at the gas station, as they may not have been updated for a long time.
If desired, you can check the fuel’s quality using a hydrometer to measure its density.
For diesel fuel, a density of around 835 kg/m³ indicates a more or less high-quality product. If the density is lower, that’s a reason to question its quality.
For gasoline, the benchmark is approximately 750 kg/m³. If the reading is lower, the fuel’s quality may be poorer.
