The number of apiaries and bees is declining in Ukraine, but honey will become cheaper

Despite the decline in the number of beehives and beekeepers in Ukraine, the total honey harvest in 2026 will remain at last year’s level thanks to higher yields. This was reported by Vadym Pankovskyi, chairman of the Association of Ukrainian Honey Exporters and Processors.

The expert noted that the cost of honey has already fallen significantly compared to the atypical year of 2025, when the price reached 150 UAH per kilogram. This season, the purchase price directly from apiaries started at 130 UAH and is projected to stabilize between 80 and 100 UAH per kilogram.

The main honey harvest is still ahead and will take place in August, so it is difficult to estimate exact production volumes. At the same time, the first harvests of acacia, linden, and rapeseed honey have already been partially sold.

The European Union is reducing tariffs on certain Ukrainian products—dairy products, fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as meat and semi-processed meat products. This decision was made as part of the revision of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area agreement between Ukraine and the EU.

A prolonged heatwave and lack of rainfall in Ukraine have negatively affected the potato harvest. As a result, a decline in production is expected as early as this fall, which could lead to a significant increase in wholesale and retail prices.
