Architect Mainhard von Herkan's Guna Villa in Jurmala has been put up for sale
The Guna Villa in Jurmala, Latvia—a modernist residence on the Baltic Sea coast designed by German architect Mainhard von Herkan, who was of Baltic-German descent—has been put up for sale. The property is being offered by the Latvian real estate company Latio, according to LSM English.
The four-story white villa is nestled in a pine forest near the sea. Its living area is approximately 600 square meters. The property features a landscaped garden, and a 15-meter-high observation deck offers views of the pine trees and the coastline.
The house was designed in 2003 in collaboration between von Gerkan and the current owner, Latvian designer Guna Eglite. Construction was completed between 2005 and 2007. The villa has a U-shape and opens fully to the south, toward the garden. Its architecture features predominantly light-colored plastered surfaces, and its restrained geometry evokes the classical modernism of the 1920s.

According to Latio real estate agent Līga Igala, the owner decided to sell the house because she is ready for a new phase in her life. von Herkan himself called Villa Guna one of his favorite and most important projects.
The building has been included in the list of state cultural monuments of national significance in Latvia. The architect was born in Riga and maintained close ties with Latvia, where he also carried out other projects in Jurmala.
