Google Play Adds Venmo as a Payment Method for Digital Content

Google is adding Venmo to the list of payment methods on the Google Play Store. Users will be able to use the service to purchase games, apps, add-ons, and other digital content, according to TechCrunch.

To set up Venmo, users need to go to the payment methods section in their account settings and link their Venmo account. In the U.S., Google Play already offers PayPal, Cash App, as well as American Express, Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and JCB cards.

Outside the U.S., the company has also been experimenting with the option to pay for digital purchases with cash at nearby stores. According to data from the analytics firm Sensor Tower, user spending on in-app purchases in the iOS App Store and Google Play Store exceeded $167 billion in 2025. This is 10.6% more than the previous year.
