Eden Hazard under investigation in Belgium over crypto casino Stake promotion
Former Chelsea and Belgium national team footballer Eden Hazard has come under investigation after becoming a global ambassador for the crypto platform Stake and announcing the partnership to his 27 million Instagram followers. Belgium’s Gaming Commission has launched a probe to determine whether the promotion targeted Belgian audiences.
Belgium maintains strict restrictions on gambling advertising, and Stake has been on the country’s blacklist since 2021 for operating without a local license. Hazard’s public endorsement therefore attracted the attention of regulators.
According to the Gaming Commission, if a violation is confirmed, Hazard could receive an official warning ordering him to end his cooperation with the operator. The decision will depend on whether the promotion was directed at users in Belgium.
If the former footballer refuses to comply with the regulator’s request, he could face sanctions, which may affect his future activities as a brand ambassador in the gambling industry.
