AREX upgrades city airport terminal at Seoul Station
Airport Railroad (AREX) has completed upgrades to the city airport terminal at Seoul Station to meet growing demand for convenient check-in before traveling to Incheon Airport. As The Korea Herald reports, passengers at the terminal can check in for flights, check baggage and complete immigration procedures before departing for the airport.
Queue and baggage systems
AREX introduced a queue management system and installed smart baggage scales in October last year. Passengers can obtain a ticket number at a kiosk and monitor their place in line on screens in the waiting area. This is intended to reduce queues at check-in counters.
The scales allow passengers to check the weight of their suitcases before check-in, which is intended to prevent delays caused by exceeding baggage allowances. The operator also organized passenger routes, placed numbered signs from the information center to the entrance to the express train and expanded waiting areas. These were separated from check-in areas to improve passenger flow.

Passenger traffic growth
In 2025, 2.66 million passengers used AREX express trains, more than 35% higher than in 2019. The city airport terminal at Seoul Station served 470,000 users during the year, or an average of 1,302 people per day. During peak periods, including holidays, the daily number of passengers exceeded 2,000.
AREX CEO Park Dae-su said that the terminal at Seoul Station allows passengers to complete airport procedures in the city before traveling to the airport. According to him, the upgrades created more comfortable conditions for starting a journey.
