Samba evening to take place at Bip Bip in Rio de Janeiro on August 23

In Rio de Janeiro, on Sunday, August 23, 2026, the Bip Bip bar in the Copacabana district will host a samba circle (roda). The Rio Times calls the evening the day’s main music event: it is expected to begin at around 8:00 p.m. Admission is free, while drinks are paid for in cash through a trust-based system, The Rio Times reports.

Bip Bip is located at Rua Almirante Gonçalves 50 in Copacabana. Musicians play in a circle without a stage, and visitors are asked to remain quiet during performances. The publication advises arriving early, as the venue is small. Sunday and Thursday are the two main samba days at this bar.

Cultural program in the center

During the day, visitors can go to the CCBB Rio cultural center at Rua Primeiro de Março 66 in the city center. Among other attractions, it features the exhibition “Vik Muniz: A Olho Nu.” The center is open until 8:00 p.m., with last entry at approximately 7:00 p.m. Admission is free, but visitors need to reserve a free ticket online or obtain one at the box office.

On Sunday, the coastal lanes of Copacabana and Ipanema are closed to cars from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. They are available for pedestrians, cyclists, and roller skaters, while beach kiosks offer drinks and food.

Lapa venues and returning in the evening

In the Lapa district, one of the few venues open on Sunday is Leviano Bar at Avenida Mem de Sá 49. A DJ set or live performance may take place there, but visitors are advised to check the program for the specific evening before visiting. The major samba venues Rio Scenarium and Carioca da Gema are closed on Sundays.

The street samba circle at Pedra do Sal, according to the publication, will take place the following day, on Monday. For returning in the evening, The Rio Times advises using ride-hailing services and waiting for a car in well-lit, crowded places.
