In Estonia, cat Kurri covered 15,000 kilometers in two months — ERR News
In Estonia, nine-year-old cat Kurri took a 15,000-kilometer road trip with his owner Katri Bagirova. Over two months, he traveled through 14 countries, navigated mountain roads and reached Armenia, ERR News reports.
Sixth summer trip
This journey became Kurri's sixth summer road trip and the longest of them all. For the first time, the route went to the Caucasus. Bagirova, her mother and her mother's husband traveled with the cat.
According to Bagirova, after returning home Kurri avoided her attention for three days. His owner suggested that the cat was upset because the daily adventures had ended and there was no longer anywhere to go.
Kurri came to Bagirova from a shelter where she helped find new homes for cats. He was in the worst condition among the cats in quarantine and had pneumonia. Bagirova took him to a veterinarian, nursed him back to health and later decided to keep him. At first, she doubted whether Kurri would suit her lifestyle because of her frequent trips.

Getting used to the road
At first, Kurri had a hard time even with short car rides: he was nervous, often felt unwell and had diarrhea. Bagirova gradually accustomed him to a harness, leash and car. Now, the cat climbs into the travel suitcase without much difficulty when his owner is getting ready to leave.
They took their first long road trip about three years after Kurri joined the family, when they gave up air travel and decided to take the cat with them. At that time, the route passed through Germany, France, Spain and Portugal. Bagirova said she was surprised by how much the cat walked, including through entire small villages.
Travel planning is largely arranged around Kurri's needs. According to Bagirova, for trips to EU countries, the animal needs a microchip, a pet passport and rabies vaccination. To travel outside the European Union, a health certificate with a note on parasite treatment is also required. Before booking accommodation, the travelers ask owners whether they can stay with a cat.
