Wizz Air launches Larnaca–Madrid flights three times a week — Cyprus Mail
Low-cost carrier Wizz Air operated its first direct flight from Larnaca, Cyprus, to Madrid on September 24. Flights between Cyprus and the Spanish capital will operate three times a week, Cyprus Mail reports.
The inaugural flight opened a new direct connection after the carrier had already launched the Larnaca–Barcelona route. To mark the start of flights, Larnaca Airport operator Hermes Airports held an event for passengers on the first flight.
Expansion of the network from Larnaca
Wizz Air’s route network development director, András Szabó, said the company sees potential for year-round travel between Cyprus and Spain. According to him, the Madrid route is intended to provide passengers in Cyprus with a direct and affordable connection to one of Europe’s largest capitals, while giving tourists from Spain the opportunity to visit Cyprus throughout the year.
Szabó also noted that the company’s decisions to open routes are made primarily with passenger demand in mind, as well as airport charges and the ability to offer affordable fares. According to him, Wizz Air operates flights from Larnaca to nearly 40 destinations, including Budapest, London, Prague, Rome, Milan, Tel Aviv and Warsaw.

Possible increase in flight frequency
Wizz Air will assess bookings and demand for flights to Madrid before deciding on a possible increase in flight frequency or capacity on the route. A representative of the carrier stressed that the company has not yet made any specific commitments regarding additional flights.
At the same time, the airline confirmed the resumption of Larnaca–Athens flights twice a day and an increase in flight frequency to Barcelona, Thessaloniki and Yerevan. In June, Wizz Air also announced the addition of 57,500 seats on flights from Larnaca for August and September.
Hermes Airports Director of Aviation Development, Marketing and Communications Maria Kouroupi called the direct flight to Madrid an important addition to the airport’s route network. According to her, the new connection resulted from cooperation between the airport operator and Wizz Air.
