President Zelenskyy explained why the military delegation will not participate in the talks in the U.S.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that a political delegation will represent Ukraine at the peace talks in the United States.
He announced this during a conversation with journalists.
According to the head of state, some progress has already been made in the military sphere. In particular, the parties agreed on the parameters of a possible ceasefire and mechanisms for monitoring it, but there is a lack of political will to implement these agreements.
“We made progress during the trilateral meeting, specifically in the military track. The three sides agreed on how to monitor the ceasefire. But there is no political will yet,” Zelenskyy noted.
The president added that a meeting of the political part of the Ukrainian delegation in the U.S. is scheduled for March 21. The Russian side will not participate in these talks.
Among the key tasks of the Ukrainian delegation are agreeing on the parameters for further trilateral negotiations, preparing relevant documents, and discussing with the American side the continuation of the PURL weapons procurement program and a possible agreement on drones.
The political wing of the Ukrainian negotiating team has already departed for the United States to resume dialogue on ending Russia’s war against Ukraine.
Meanwhile, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov has already stated that the trilateral negotiation process between Ukraine, the U.S., and Russia is currently on hold. According to him, consultations are temporarily suspended.
