Reddit is testing a feature that converts posts and comments into videos with AI-generated narration
Reddit is testing a format in which text posts and comments are converted into audio and video content featuring voices generated by artificial intelligence. As part of the experiment, some posts are adapted into videos: AI voices read the main post and selected comments aloud, while the text is highlighted in sync with the narration, according to The Verge.
These videos are labeled in English: “Real conversation voiced by AI.” Users can switch between the standard text view and the video format using the “Read” or “Play” toggle at the top of the post.
One example is a thread in the r/boardgames community posted eight years ago. In it, a user asked for recommendations on games for adults to play on a road trip and received 101 replies. In the new format, the main question appears above the video, and the three-minute clip features an AI-generated voice reading the participants’ responses.

According to The Verge, this presentation style may be more convenient for people who aren’t used to using online forums. At the same time, the publication points out potential issues, such as mispronounced words or the wrong comments being read aloud.
Earlier, in a letter to shareholders following the release of its financial results, Reddit stated that it is rethinking the ways in which users and communities interact, share, and consume content through an updated video experience on the platform. During the earnings call, Reddit CEO Steve Huffman also said that the company is working on a feature that would allow users to listen to posts in the background.
