Australia defeated Poland in the Davis Cup — ABC News Australia
Australia’s tennis team defeated Poland 3:1 in a Davis Cup match in Brisbane, Australia. The decisive point for the hosts on Sunday was earned by Alex de Minaur, who beat Kamil Majchrzak 6:3, 6:3.
Singles matches
De Minaur, who is ranked ninth in the world, defeated Max Kasnikowski in 57 minutes the day before. On Saturday, the Australian team also suffered a defeat in another singles match played by James Duckworth.
The victory over Poland allowed Australia to continue competing in the Davis Cup. Earlier this year, the Australians unexpectedly lost to Ecuador in an away match, making the encounter with the Poles a must-win for them.

Doubles victory
Rinky Hijikata and Max Purcell defeated Jan Zieliński and Karol Drzewiecki in the doubles match, 7:6 (7:3), 6:3. The Australians won the first-set tie-break, and in the second set Hijikata, after two unconverted break points, secured the only break of the match with a forehand return.
The doubles match lasted 77 minutes and was held at a packed Pat Rafter Arena. Next year, Australia is set to play a qualifying round against an opponent yet to be determined. To reach the final stage of the tournament in Italy in November 2027, the team must win this match, ABC News Australia reports.
