Beşiktaş thrash Marseille in Europa League opener — Anadolu Agency
Turkey’s Beşiktaş defeated France’s Marseille 4-1 in Istanbul in the opening match of their UEFA Europa League campaign. As Anadolu Agency reports, the hosts earned three points at home.
Goals before the break
Beşiktaş opened the scoring in the 15th minute: Ilhan Fakili combined with Olaitan, got behind the defenders and accurately struck into the corner of the net. Marseille equalised in the 30th minute through Abdalla, who burst into the penalty area on the right after a long pass from Abdelli and sent a low shot into the far corner.
At the end of the first half, Marseille goalkeeper De Lange denied Orkun Kökçü in a one-on-one situation, so the teams went into the break level at 1-1.

Three goals from the hosts
In the 56th minute, Černý put Beşiktaş ahead again after a pass from Kökçü: his shot into the far corner went into the net off the post. Just three minutes later, defender Murillo headed in Kökçü’s delivery from a corner.
In the 68th minute, Fakili’s curling effort struck the crossbar. Poku set the final score in the 81st minute, assisted by Olaitan after a combination with Vlahovic.
