Former player and former captain of the Ukrainian national team Ihor Petrov has become president of the so-called “Shakhtar,” a club established by the occupiers in Donetsk.
According to available information, this club participates in competitions in the temporarily occupied territories and has already earned the right to compete in the Russian Second Division.
Petrov is a product of Donetsk football and spent a significant part of his career with the real “Shakhtar.” He was also the first captain of the Ukrainian national team in an official match.
After the occupation of Donetsk in 2014, he remained in the city and worked in structures associated with the occupying administration.
The fake club plays its “home” matches in Taganrog, Russia, and the occupying authorities are also considering options for establishing a training base outside the temporarily occupied part of Ukraine.
As a reminder, Mircea Lucescu, the former coach of Kyiv’s Dynamo and Donetsk’s Shakhtar, was placed in an induced coma following another episode of severe cardiac arrhythmia.
Former star of London’s “Chelsea” and the Brazilian national team, Oscar, was forced to announce the end of his professional career. He is currently 34 years old.
