Gauff, Zverev and Auger-Aliassime to play in second round of US Open
Coco Gauff, Alexander Zverev and Felix Auger-Aliassime will play their second-round matches at the US Open on Thursday against opponents who have already caused them difficulties in head-to-head meetings. This was reported by Channel NewsAsia.
Gauff to face Badosa
Fourth seed Gauff, the 2023 US Open champion, will play Spain's Paula Badosa, who previously reached the tournament's quarter-finals. Badosa has won five of eight matches against the American, including the last two.
The former world number two missed last year's US Open and this year's Roland Garros due to injuries and fell to 87th in the WTA rankings. In the first round, Badosa defeated Daria Kasatkina in two sets and said that her health had recovered. Gauff is counting on improved serving and consistency, which helped her reach the Wimbledon semi-finals for the first time in July.
Zverev and Auger-Aliassime
Top seed Zverev will play France's Quentin Halys. In the first round, the German defeated Italy's Lorenzo Sonego in nearly five hours. After the match, Zverev said he made more errors on his backhand than usual, but considers the difficult contest necessary for himself.

Zverev won both previous meetings with Halys, although the Frenchman put up serious resistance in each of them. Halys reached the second round of the US Open for the first time in his career.
Third seed Auger-Aliassime will face Karen Khachanov. The Canadian started the tournament with a four-set victory over Rinky Hijikata in a match lasting nearly three and a half hours. Khachanov won two of the four previous matches against Auger-Aliassime.
A match between Ukrainian Oleksandra Oliynykova and 17th seed Alexandra Eala of the Philippines is also scheduled on the Louis Armstrong Court.
