Team Europe wins Laver Cup in the United Kingdom — Cyprus Mail

Team Europe defeated Team World 13:5 to claim its sixth Laver Cup title at London’s O2 Arena in the United Kingdom. The decisive three points for Team Europe were earned by German tennis player Alexander Zverev, who beat American Learner Tien in straight sets, 7:6 (7:3), 6:3, Cyprus Mail reports.

Victories on the final day

Before the final day of the tournament, Team Europe, captained by Yannick Noah, needed two victories to regain the trophy. On Sunday, each victory was worth three points, and the Cup went to the team that first reached 13 points. One point was awarded for a victory on Friday and two on Saturday.

Italian Flavio Cobolli and Czech Jakub Mensik were the first to take the court. They defeated American Taylor Fritz and Australian Alex de Minaur 7:5, 6:3, extending Team Europe’s lead to 10:5.

After that, Zverev defeated Tien in a first-set tiebreak and won the second set 6:3, securing the title for his team. The scheduled singles matches between Carlos Alcaraz and de Minaur, and Rafael Jodar and Fritz, were not played.

Zverev’s fourth decisive match

For Zverev, this was the fourth time he had delivered the winning points for Team Europe at the Laver Cup. He previously did so in Chicago in 2018, Geneva in 2019, and Boston in 2021, where he won a doubles match alongside Russian Andrey Rublev.

After the match, Zverev praised Team World’s play, saying it had forced their opponents to fight until the end. He also said that Europe’s success was the result of teamwork.

Europe’s sixth title

Team Europe won the Laver Cup in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2024. Team World won in 2022, 2023 and 2025. The tournament has been held since 2017 as a team competition modeled on golf’s Ryder Cup.

Among the spectators at the packed O2 Arena were tournament co-founder and co-owner Roger Federer, as well as actor Leonardo DiCaprio. The 10th edition of the Laver Cup in 2027 will take place at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California.
