Laura Wolvaardt secures South Africa’s T20I series victory over Zimbabwe

South Africa women’s cricket captain Laura Wolvaardt scored an unbeaten 126 runs and helped her team defeat Zimbabwe in the third T20I match of the series in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. South Africa won by 80 runs and took an unassailable 3-0 lead in the series, TimesLIVE reports.

126 runs from 62 balls

After winning the toss, South Africa chose to bat first and finished their innings on 200/1. Wolvaardt recorded the best score of her career: 126 runs from 62 balls, including 16 fours and four sixes. She reached her half-century in 32 balls and brought up 100 runs in 54 balls.

South Africa ended the powerplay at 53/1, with Miane Smit dismissed for eight runs. Wolvaardt and Karabo Meso then put together an unbeaten second-wicket partnership of 173 runs from 103 balls. Meso scored an unbeaten 50 from 51 balls, registering her first half-century in T20I matches.

Five wickets for Dercksen

Zimbabwe, chasing a target of 201 runs, finished on 120. The top scorer for the hosts was Michelle Mavunga, who made 41 runs from 23 balls, including eight fours. Nyasha Gwanzura added 28 runs from 23 balls.

By the end of the powerplay, Zimbabwe had lost four wickets for 29 runs. Annerie Dercksen took five wickets for 15 runs in four overs, the best figures of her career. Ayanda Hlubi, Eliz-Mari Marx, Seshnie Naidu and Luyanda Nzuza each took one wicket. After taking the catch that brought Zimbabwe’s sixth wicket, Meso left the field with a suspected groin injury.
