Manchester United posts seventh straight annual loss — Cyprus Mail
In the United Kingdom, football club Manchester United reported its seventh consecutive annual loss. For the financial year ended June 30, 2026, the club’s net loss amounted to £43 million, compared with £33 million a year earlier, Cyprus Mail reports.
Costs and restructuring
According to the publication, the financial result was affected by costs related to player acquisitions, as well as the departure of former head coach Ruben Amorim this year. The club recorded exceptional costs of £8.2 million related to Amorim’s departure and restructuring.
The club’s minority shareholder and head of football operations, Jim Ratcliffe, has taken measures to restore profitability, including cutting jobs and raising ticket prices. Since financial year 2024, Manchester United’s cumulative losses have amounted to nearly £190 million.

League rules and revenue forecast
English Premier League profitability and sustainability rules limit club losses to £105 million over three years. At the same time, spending on infrastructure, academies, charity and women’s football may be deducted in the calculation.
Club chief executive Omar Berrada said Manchester United would continue to follow a disciplined approach to ensure financial sustainability. The club forecasts record revenue in financial year 2027 of between £740 million and £760 million, compared with £677.6 million in financial year 2026.
Last season, the team led by Michael Carrick finished third in the Premier League and qualified for the Champions League. After five matches of the current season, Manchester United have five points, are in 12th place and have recorded one win.
