Nigeria’s Ogunsakin to play in junior US Open main draw in the United States
Nigerian tennis player Oluwaseun Ogunsakin is set to make his debut in the main draw of the junior US Open tennis championships in New York. In the first round, the 17-year-old athlete will play against Kuan-Shou Chen of Chinese Taipei, who is ranked 16th in the world junior rankings and is seeded 15th at the tournament.
The match is scheduled for 16:00 Nigerian time. For Ogunsakin, it will be a chance to claim his first victory in the main draw of a junior Grand Slam tournament, Premium Times Nigeria reports.
Path through qualification
The Aurum Tennis Academy player entered the 64-player main draw through qualification in New York. In the second qualifying round, he defeated top-seeded Canadian Felix Roussel 6:3, 6:4.

In his opening qualifying match, Ogunsakin beat Poland’s Tymon Litwicz 6:3, 6:0. Reaching the US Open main tournament marked another stage in his appearances at junior Grand Slam competitions.
Third consecutive Grand Slam tournament
Ogunsakin is taking part in his third consecutive junior Grand Slam tournament. He previously competed at the junior French Open and then at the junior Wimbledon.
This year at Wimbledon, the Nigerian reached the main draw of the boys’ singles event and also advanced to the semifinals of the doubles tournament. A victory over Chen would be his first in the main draw of a junior Grand Slam.
