Pakistan lose to Malaysia in hockey, squash players win bronze — Dawn
Pakistan’s national field hockey team suffered their first defeat at the Asian Games in Japan, losing 4-5 to Malaysia in a group-stage match in Kakamigahara. As Dawn reports, Sufyan Khan scored all four of Pakistan’s goals from penalty-corner routines.
Khan opened the scoring in the third minute, but Shello Silverius equalised soon after. Malaysia took the lead after Faisal Saari scored in the 23rd minute. Sufyan Khan scored in the 39th and 43rd minutes, and struck again in the fourth quarter, in the 46th minute. His tally at the tournament reached nine goals in four matches.
Malaysia levelled the score late in the third quarter through Saari Fithri. Silverius scored his second goal, while Azrai Abu Kamal secured victory for his team in the 57th minute. Pakistan will play Oman in their final group match on Monday.
Two bronze medals in squash
Pakistani squash players Noor Zaman and Mohammad Ashab Irfan finished their Asian Games campaigns with bronze medals after losing in the semi-finals in Nagoya. Noor Zaman lost to top-seeded Malaysian Eain Yow Ng 7:11, 2:11, 4:11. In the second game, Ng won 10 consecutive points after his opponent scored the opening point.

Mohammad Ashab Irfan lost to second-seeded Indian Abhay Singh 3:11, 10:12, 6:11 in the semi-finals. The match lasted 35 minutes.
Eliminations in badminton and boxing
Badminton player Mahoor Shahzad was eliminated in the first round of the women’s singles event after losing to Indonesia’s Putri Kusuma Wardani 5:21, 11:21. Track and field athlete Shajar Abbas advanced to the semi-finals of the 200 metres after finishing third in his heat in 21.23 seconds.
Both Pakistani boxers were also eliminated from the tournament. Fatima Zahra lost to Tajikistan’s Midjgona Samadova in the under-60 kg category, while Irfan Khan lost to South Korea’s Giche Kim in the under-90 kg category after the bout was stopped in the second round.
