South Africa beat Australia in second ODI and won the series — TimesLIVE

South Africa's cricket team defeated Australia by 32 runs in the second ODI match at the Wanderers Stadium and secured the series victory. The hosts, wearing special pink kits to raise awareness of breast cancer, set Australia a target of 366 runs.

As TimesLIVE reports, captain Temba Bavuma and David Miller made key contributions to South Africa's result. Bavuma scored 103 runs off 116 balls — his sixth ODI century and his first in three years. His innings included 10 fours and two sixes.

Miller's record innings

Miller scored 142 runs off 93 balls, his personal best in ODIs. He hit 12 fours and nine sixes, and also surpassed his previous best score of 139 runs against Australia in Hobart in 2018. Bavuma and Miller put together a 156-run partnership for the fourth wicket off 132 balls.

After his eighth ODI century, Miller dedicated the emotional moment to his mother Jenny, whose name was on his kit. According to the publication, she is battling cancer. Instead of their own surnames, South African players had the names of people fighting breast cancer or survivors of it on their match shirts.

Australia lost the advantage

Australians Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head began the chase with a 130-run partnership off 102 balls. Marsh scored 84 runs off 53 balls, while Head made 84 off 76. After Marsh was dismissed, South Africa seized the initiative thanks to its spinners.

From the 24th to the 42nd over, Australia scored 82 runs and lost four wickets. Aiden Markram, Keshav Maharaj and Bjorn Fortuin took five wickets between them, conceding 179 runs in 30 overs. Australian bowler Jake Edwards finished the match with figures of five wickets for 60 runs, but that was not enough for the visitors to win.
