In the city of Elche, Spain, Real Madrid earned a 3-2 away victory over Elche in a La Liga match. Substitute forward Carlos Espi scored the decisive goal in the 91st minute after an assist from Kylian Mbappe, Channel NewsAsia reports.

Two goals before the break

The Madrid side opened the scoring in the 25th minute. After an Arda Guler free kick, the ball hit the goal frame and then rebounded off Elche goalkeeper Matias Dituro into the net. Eight minutes later, Real newcomer Yan Diomande registered his first assist for the club as Mbappe finished his low cross unmarked.

Elche comeback and late winning goal

In the second half, the hosts fought back. In the 71st minute, forward Abiel Osorio headed in his first goal for Elche after a cross from Lucas Cepeda. In the 83rd minute, Marc Cucurella lost the ball, after which the hosts launched an attack that Fer Nino completed with an accurate shot into the corner of the goal.

Despite losing a two-goal lead, Jose Mourinho’s team secured three points thanks to Espi’s 91st-minute goal. With the victory, Real Madrid moved to 15 points and levelled with Barcelona at the top of the table, although the Catalans have a game in hand. Elche remain without a win and sit bottom with two points.
