Portugal national team captain Cristiano Ronaldo said that next year will likely be the last of his soccer career. The 41-year-old forward made the remarks in an interview with Vogue magazine published on Sunday, Channel NewsAsia reported, citing Reuters.

“This is likely my last year in soccer, and I want to leave a remarkable legacy,” Ronaldo said. He added that after retiring from soccer, he would like to travel more, watch and play padel, and devote time to other activities.

Ronaldo will continue to play for the Saudi club Al-Nassr this season. Over the course of his more than two-decade career, he has scored 976 goals for clubs and the national team and is approaching the 1,000-goal mark.

The forward made his senior debut for Sporting in 2002. He went on to win major trophies with Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus, and Al-Nassr. The Portuguese player has won the Ballon d’Or five times, but a World Cup title has yet to be added to his trophy collection following Portugal’s failure at this year’s World Cup.
