Shakhtar draw with PSV in the Netherlands in opening Champions League match
Shakhtar Donetsk drew 1-1 with Dutch side PSV in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, in the opening match of their Champions League campaign on September 10. The Miners took the lead late in the first half, but the hosts equalized immediately after the break.

Late in a cautious first half, Gleiker Mendoza cut in from the flank and sent a low shot past PSV goalkeeper Matej Kovar. In the second half, the ball was worked across the penalty area to Sergiño Dest, who equalized with a precise shot into the bottom corner.
PSV failed to secure their first win in a first-round Champions League match since 2015. Before this game, the club had lost its opening fixture in each of its previous five appearances in the competition. Last season, the team finished 28th in the league phase.

Draw in Istanbul
In another early match of the day, Roma drew 1-1 away to Turkish side Fenerbahce. The Romans opened the scoring in the 39th minute: Donyell Malen passed to Bryan Cristante, who beat Ederson. It was Cristante's first goal in the Champions League proper — 15 years after making his competition debut for Milan at the age of 16.
Fenerbahce, who returned to the Champions League after an 18-year absence, equalized three minutes into the second half. Mason Greenwood set up Archie Brown, who chipped the ball over Mile Svilar.
