Sinesipho Dambile is South Africa’s last chance for a medal in Budapest
In Budapest, Hungary, South African sprinter Sinesipho Dambile will compete as South Africa’s last chance to win a medal at the debut World Athletics Ultimate Championships. This was reported by TimesLIVE.
100 metres final
Gift Leotlela and Akani Simbine finished sixth and eighth respectively in the 100 metres final. Both athletes reached the final after placing fourth in their respective semi-finals.
American Kenny Bednarek won in 9.85 seconds. Jamaica’s world champion Oblique Seville was second in 9.90 seconds, while American Ronnie Baker took third place with 9.93 seconds. Nigeria’s Kainsola Ajayi also recorded 9.93 seconds and finished fourth.
In his semi-final, Leotlela was two hundredths of a second ahead of Australian Lachlan Kennedy. Simbine was six hundredths of a second ahead of Cameroon’s Commonwealth Games champion Emmanuel Eseme.

Dambile’s start
Last week, Dambile finished second behind Bednarek in the 200 metres at the Diamond League final. In Budapest, he has the second seed behind the American; his rivals will include Botswana’s Olympic champion Letsile Tebogo.
This season, Dambile improved his personal best to 19.74 seconds, won one of the Diamond League races and ran 200 metres under 20 seconds seven times. One of those results was recorded with an illegal tailwind.
Other results
Botswana’s Collen Kebanitshipi won the 400 metres with a national record of 43.39 seconds and completed the international season unbeaten. In the women’s javelin throw, Japan’s Haruka Kitaguchi won with a national record of 68.92 metres, ahead of China’s Ziyi Yan, who recorded 68.05 metres.
Switzerland’s Audrey Werro won the women’s 800 metres in 1 minute 55.88 seconds. Britain’s Keely Hodgkinson was second in 1:56.26, while the Netherlands’ Femke Broeders-Bol was third, finishing in 1:56.74.
