Coach Javier Aguirre takes charge of Valencia until the end of the season — Asharq Al-Awsat

Spanish club Valencia have appointed 67-year-old Javier Aguirre as the team’s head coach until the end of the season. He replaced Carlos Corberan, who was dismissed on September 14 after the club suffered four defeats in its first five matches of the season.

Changes after a poor start

After seven matches, Valencia have four points and are second from bottom in La Liga. Corberan’s dismissal was part of personnel changes in the club’s sporting department: Ron Gourlay, the executive director of football, also left his position alongside the coach. Braulio Vazquez was appointed Valencia’s new sporting director.

Aguirre’s experience

Aguirre recently completed his third spell in charge of the Mexico national team. At the World Cup, the team reached the round of 16 under his leadership, where it lost to England.

The coach previously managed six Spanish clubs, including Atletico Madrid. His last club in Spain was Mallorca, which he coached from 2022 to 2024. The appointment was reported by Asharq Al-Awsat.
