In South Africa, Chippa United head coach Brandon Truter said he was satisfied with the team’s progress, although it has yet to secure its first win of the Betway Premiership season. On Saturday, the club drew 1-1 with reigning African champions Mamelodi Sundowns at Buffalo City Stadium in KuGompo City, TimesLIVE reports.
Draw with Sundowns
Chippa United opened the scoring in the second half through a goal by Sergio Cammisa. The team played more actively on the ball, controlled the midfield and penetrated the opponent’s penalty area more frequently.
However, Antonio van Wyk equalised with virtually the final kick of the match. This happened after a cross that Chippa goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali failed to punch clear of the danger area.

Truter said his team could have secured a victory over Sundowns, but two individual mistakes cost it three points. According to him, few people expected before the match that Chippa could contend for the club’s first-ever league win over Sundowns.
Management’s assessment
According to Truter, club chairman Siviwe Mpengesi entered the dressing room after the match and positively assessed the team’s character and progress. The coach noted that Mpengesi is still waiting for the first victory, but reminded the players that last season Chippa United reached five points only in December.
After six matches of the current season, Chippa have five points — five draws and one defeat to reigning champions Orlando Pirates. In the first six games of the previous season, the team suffered four defeats. Chippa United will play their next league match against TS Galaxy at Mbombela Stadium on Sunday, September 20.
