A Ukrainian teenager has once again broken the world record in the pole vault

13-year-old Ukrainian track and field athlete Omelian Gerasymchuk has once again set a world record in the pole vault among U-13 athletes. At a competition in Lviv, he surpassed his own previous record three times, finishing with a jump of 4.70 meters.

Young Ukrainian athlete Omelian Gerasymchuk continues to break the world record in his age group. The 13-year-old pole vaulter set three new record-breaking marks at a competition in Lviv.

Herasymchuk competed in the Ukrainian Team Track and Field Championship among physical education and sports institutions. Boys and girls born in 2009 and younger participated in the tournament.

For the Ukrainian athlete, this competition was yet another opportunity to improve his personal best. He also held the previous world record in the U-13 category. In May of this year, Gerasymchuk cleared the bar at a height of 4.50 meters. But in Lviv, he managed to significantly surpass that mark.

Three records in a single performance

First, the young athlete cleared 4.55 meters on his second attempt. In doing so, he immediately broke his own record. Gerasymchuk didn’t stop there. On his third attempt, he cleared 4.67 meters and set yet another world record for the U-13 category. His next attempt was his best. The Ukrainian cleared 4.70 meters and broke the record once again.

In other words, during a single performance, Gerasymchuk improved his own record three times—first by 5 centimeters, then by another 12, and finally by an additional 3 centimeters. For a 13-year-old athlete, this is an outstanding achievement. At the same time, he continues to compete in his age group and has the opportunity to keep improving his performance.

Who Holds the Adult Records

At the adult level, the world records in the pole vault are held by Sweden’s Armand Duplantis. He cleared 6.31 meters outdoors and 6.22 meters indoors. By comparison, the outdoor record for athletes in the U-18 category is 5.56 meters. It was set by French track and field athlete Sasha Joya.

Gerasymchuk is currently competing in a significantly younger age group, but he is already achieving results that are drawing attention in the world of youth track and field. This is the second time in a short period that the Ukrainian athlete has broken his own world record. His best result now stands at 4.70 meters.

Incidentally, another young Ukrainian recently set a record in his sport. Vyacheslav Surkis, the son of Igor Surkis, president of Kyiv’s “Dynamo,” became the record-holder at the Ukrainian Youth Soccer Championship. He has already played 100 matches in the tournament—the highest total among all participants. This was reported by the press service of the Ukrainian Athletics Federation.
