In South Africa, Western Province defeated Hollywoodbets Dolphins by 44 runs in a second-round First Class Series match at Newlands. The visitors, who needed 257 runs to win, finished their second innings on 212. As TimesLIVE reports, the hosts claimed the decisive wicket in the twilight on Sunday.
Decisive finish
Left-arm spinner Kyle Simmonds took four wickets for 91 runs. The Dolphins' final wicket was claimed by Sinalo Gobeni, whose part-time spin dismissed Okuhle Cele.
After losing both opening batters early, Marques Ackerman scored 60 runs from 62 balls and kept the Dolphins' chances of victory alive. Following his dismissal, the team lost four wickets for 20 runs in seven overs. Simmonds dismissed Josh Richards, who scored 54 runs, and Khaya Zondo. Tshepo Moreki bowled Prenelan Subrayen, while Beyanda Majola was run out.
Two centuries by Bedingham
Western Province declared their second innings at 281/7 about half an hour after lunch on the final day of the match. David Bedingham scored 114 runs, completing his second century of the match after making 129 runs in the first innings. On Saturday, he also passed the mark of 10,000 runs in first-class cricket.

Joshua van Heerden remained unbeaten on 72 runs. Together with Bedingham, he put on a 96-run partnership for the fifth wicket, and he scored 61 runs in the first innings.
Dispute over lighting
Dolphins head coach Quinton Friend argued emotionally with umpire Abdulla Steen kamp. Friend was unhappy that match officials, while repeatedly checking the light levels, allowed play to continue longer than during the previous three days.
In another match of the round, Boland and North West played out a draw in Paarl. Over four days, the teams scored a combined 1,238 runs, while bowlers took 13 wickets. The competition will pause for two months because of the revamped T20 Challenge, which is scheduled to start on Tuesday.
