Archaeologists have unearthed a Trypillian house in a garden in Husiatyn
In the village of Husiatyn in the Chortkiv District of the Ternopil Region, researchers from Lviv have begun a full-scale excavation of a previously unknown Trypillian dwelling discovered on a private garden plot. Archaeologists speculate that this site, covering an area of about one hectare along the Zbruch River, may have been home to an entire Trypillian settlement.
Previously, the landowners would discover fragments of pottery featuring traditional Trypillian ornamentation every year while plowing their fields and would donate them to the Husiatyn Local History Museum. Currently, experts led by Yana Yakovishyna, a researcher at the Krypiakevych Institute of Ukrainian Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, are conducting the first phase of exploratory work, and they plan to fully excavate the dwellings, investigate possible interior elements and the defensive moat, and conduct geomagnetic surveys next spring.
