Meta may unveil camera-free Luna smart glasses — The Verge
Meta may soon unveil camera-free smart glasses codenamed Luna. As The Verge reports, citing The Information, the device could be shown as early as next week at the Meta Connect event.
Six microphones instead of a camera
According to the publications, Luna may feature six microphones, speakers for audio playback, and the ability to communicate with Meta AI and the new AI agent Muse. Reportedly, removing the camera made it possible to make the glasses' temples smaller and bring the design closer to conventional frames.
According to The Information, Meta expects to begin shipping Luna in October. The glasses may be released in two design variants: Clubmaster and Burbank.

Privacy concerns
Meta's current smart glasses have become popular, but they have also drawn criticism over their ability to record video. The Verge writes that some people used such glasses to secretly record others, sometimes deliberately harassing them for popularity on social media. The devices were banned, in particular, in New York courtrooms and in the UK's largest pub chain.
Existing models have an LED recording indicator. Meta says the camera stops working if the indicator is damaged, but some users have developed ways to record video with the indicator turned off. The absence of a camera will not necessarily eliminate all privacy concerns, as Luna will have microphones and may be less noticeable among ordinary glasses.
Phoenix glasses
Augmented reality glasses called Phoenix may also be shown at Meta Connect. According to The Information, they will be able to display a virtual workspace or a screen for watching movies in AR. Their release is expected in 2027; the model is set to continue the concept of AR glasses that Meta demonstrated in 2024.
