Meta explains Muse’s incorrect answer about access to Messages — The Verge
Meta said that its AI assistant Muse incorrectly explained to a user where it obtained information about a conversation in the Messages app on Mac. As The Verge reports, David Singleton of Meta Superintelligence Labs said that the assistant provided an inaccurate explanation of how the synchronization feature works.
Questions about access to messages
Inc Magazine editor Jason Aten posted screenshots of a conversation with Muse on Threads. The assistant asked him questions about discussions in Messages, although, according to Aten, he had not granted Muse access to his messages.
In response to a question about the source of the information, Muse said that it had seen notification previews rather than message history. When Aten asked it to explain how the assistant obtained such previews, Muse was unable to describe the exact mechanism. It referred to the capabilities of a connected Mac app and synchronization with the device.

Meta’s position
Singleton explained that Muse requires separate permissions to read messages, including the Mac app’s full disk access. According to him, the user must enable these capabilities independently.
He also said that Muse does not monitor notifications on Mac and synchronizes data from Messages only after the user specifically enables access. According to Singleton’s version, in the conversation shown by Aten, Muse incorrectly explained how the feature works and mistakenly said that it synchronized device notifications.
Meta apologized for the assistant’s incorrect answer and said it is working to ensure that Muse explains the principles of its operation more accurately and consistently.
