Scientists Close to Growing Real Human Teeth in the Lab

Researchers at King’s College London have made a major breakthrough in regenerative dentistry by developing lab-grown material that mimics the environment where real teeth grow inside the mouth. Using human gum cells combined with embryonic mouse cells, they successfully triggered the early stages of tooth formation.

The resulting structures formed tooth-like complexes, complete with roots and enamel, showing that biological teeth could one day replace artificial implants. Real teeth grown from a patient’s own cells would integrate naturally into the jawbone and restore full sensation and strength.

While clinical applications are still years away, scientists predict that by the end of the decade, lab-grown human teeth could become a reality. The discovery marks a potential end to dental implants and opens a new era in regenerative medicine.
