At the White House, US President Donald Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson held a lunch with technology company leaders focused on artificial intelligence. The meeting took place amid growing calls to slow AI development and introduce regulations, CNBC reports.

Meeting participants

According to a seating chart published on Truth Social, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and Tesla and SpaceX chief Elon Musk sat next to Trump. The chart also listed Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Google CEO Sundar Pichai.

Across from the president, between Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Johnson, was Vice President J.D. Vance. Other participants included Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Dario Amodei and Tom Brown of Anthropic, as well as OpenAI President Greg Brockman.

OpenAI is simultaneously holding its annual DevDay developer conference in San Francisco. The name of Apple’s new CEO, John Ternus, did not appear on the list of lunch participants.

AI safety and regulation

Before the meeting, Palantir CEO Alex Karp told CNBC that technology developers must be responsible for risks they know about. According to him, Americans do not want separate rules for representatives of the technology industry and for the rest of society.

The lunch was held alongside a one-day event organized by Trump and Vance dedicated to a new AI-based chatbot for government websites called America.gov. CNBC notes that concerns over the pace of artificial intelligence development have intensified in Washington and Silicon Valley.

Dario Amodei and OpenAI’s Sam Altman have joined calls to slow the development of the technology. This week, OpenAI postponed the release of the GPT-6.1 Astra model over safety considerations, and the previous week it reported a large-scale review of model behavior.
