A lawyer beat a Kyiv woman with a Louis Vuitton bag and avoided punishment

A court in Kyiv dismissed the case against a lawyer who had been accused of disorderly conduct following a conflict with a female driver. The man was exempted from criminal liability because the statute of limitations had expired.

The incident occurred back in May 2023 on a street in the Pecherskyi district of the capital. According to investigators, during an argument over a parked car, the man struck the woman with a Louis Vuitton bag and damaged her phone. As law enforcement determined, the conflict arose between the driver of a Mercedes and the driver of a Toyota on Yevhen Kovpak Street in Kyiv. The woman asked the man to move his car because it was blocking the path of other vehicles.

However, the driver refused. When he got out of the car and walked toward a building, the woman approached him again with the same request. According to the case file, the man then began to swear at her and subsequently struck her several times on the head with the Louis Vuitton bag. In addition, he noticed that the woman was recording the incident on an Apple iPhone 14. According to the court, the man snatched the phone from the victim’s hands and threw it to the ground, damaging it in the process.

The case was heard for over two years. In late May 2026, the defense asked the court to acquit the man of criminal liability due to the expiration of the statute of limitations. The prosecutor did not object to this decision. However, the victim and her representative opposed it. They argued that the case should have been heard earlier and that the court should have handed down a verdict. The judge explained that the charge involved a misdemeanor, and under the law, a person may be exempt from liability in such cases if the statute of limitations has expired.

The court’s ruling states that the defendant was offered the opportunity to continue the proceedings and receive a verdict, but he refused and insisted on the dismissal of the case. “The court repeatedly asked the defendant whether he wished to continue the proceedings with a verdict, but the defendant categorically refused to continue the trial and insisted on being exempted from criminal liability,” the ruling states. Ultimately, the Pechersky District Court of Kyiv dismissed the case. The attorney, who has been licensed to practice law since 1994, avoided criminal punishment due to the expiration of the statute of limitations. This was reported by “Glavkom,” citing the court registry.

In Ukraine, 115,000 citizens have already undergone free health screenings as part of a state program designed to identify risks of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and other health issues at an early stage. The government emphasizes that the program serves as a preventive measure and enables people to take care of their health in a timely manner.
