Budanov said he could argue with Zelensky

Kyrylo Budanov, Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, shared details about his new role in the government hierarchy in an extensive interview with Bloomberg.

Bloomberg reports on this.

The former head of military intelligence emphasized that his status allows him to engage in frank dialogue with the head of state, even if their views on certain issues differ.

Kyrylo Budanov noted that his professional ethics and combat experience give him the right to hold his own position in discussions with the country’s leadership.

“I am a general, a Hero of Ukraine. If I am certain of something, I can argue with anyone,” he stated candidly in a conversation with foreign journalists.

As a reminder, Kirill Budanov took over as head of the Office of the President on January 2, 2026, replacing Andriy Yermak in that role.

Previously, he had headed the Main Intelligence Directorate for several years, where he gained significant authority among both the military and Ukrainian society.

The newly appointed head of the Office of the President categorically rejected theories that this appointment was an attempt to neutralize his growing influence.

According to Budanov, the transition to his new position has only expanded his scope of responsibilities, as he is now tasked with “coordinating everyone’s work.”

The head of the Office of the President also ironically commented on skeptics’ views regarding a shift in his political clout following his departure from the Main Intelligence Directorate.

“So do you really think I’ve become weaker?” the general asked rhetorically, emphasizing his influence on state processes.
