The State Forestry Enterprise of Ukraine will pay over 83 million hryvnias for logging in the nature reserve
The Commercial Court of Zakarpattia Oblast fully upheld the claim filed by the Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast Prosecutor’s Office and ordered the state-owned enterprise “Lisy Ukrainy” to pay over 83 million hryvnias in compensation for damages caused by illegal logging in the "Hutsulshchyna."
The funds were recovered due to failure to ensure proper protection of the forest fund in the protected area, which led to the destruction of 738 trees in the Kosmatsky Forest District. This became known from the court’s decision dated June 2, 2026.
The violations were discovered in the fall of 2024 across nearly two dozen sites where perpetrators attempted to conceal beech, spruce, and fir stumps under soil and branches, causing environmental damage amounting to over 83.2 million hryvnias. Prosecutors proved in court the guilt of the “Carpathian Forest Office” branch of the State Enterprise “Forests of Ukraine” as the legal successor to the user of these lands, and all recovered funds will now be directed to the state, regional, and local budgets.
This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General.
Earlier, three officials from the forestry sector in the Kherson region were notified of suspicion of illegally cutting down over 2,200 trees on the territory of the Velykooleksandrivka Forestry.
The prosecutor’s officeprevented the destruction of 20 plots of century-old forest near Bukovel.
Also, after nearly five years of legal proceedings, a complex of historic buildings dating from 1830–1910, located in the historic part of Podil near Zamkova Hill, was returned to the Kyiv community.
