Former National Security and Defense Council Secretary Volodymyr Gorbulin was injured during the attack on the Academy of Sciences
Former Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, Academician Volodymyr Gorbulin, sustained minor injuries during a Russian strike on the building of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. His assistant was killed in the attack.
According to Gorbulin, he was at his desk inside the building when the strike hit. His assistant was near the building at the time and sustained fatal injuries.
Vladimir Gorbulin, an academician at the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, served as Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council under President Kuchma from 1994 to 1999 and as Acting Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council during Yushchenko’s presidency. He is the architect of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Concept, the State Program for the Construction and Development of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and other key strategic documents on the country’s development.

On September 28, following a Russian strike, a fire broke out at the building of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in central Kyiv. Rescue workers are on the scene extinguishing the fire and searching the building—there may still be people inside.
During the strike on the building of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences in Kyiv on September 28, scientists and employees of the institution were killed, and a number of people remain unaccounted for.
