Yermak should temporarily step back: political analyst Volodymyr Fesenko

28 November 2025 14:59

The very fact of the searches has already created a fundamentally new situation around Andriy Yermak.

He has become a subject of a case, a figure in the NABU investigation. This primarily undermines his political positions and status. At the very least, a question—and even a necessity—arises for him to temporarily step back from leadership, at least of the negotiation group, because remaining in charge could create difficulties and negative consequences. Opponents could exploit this.

For the opposition, this will be a reason to demand Yermak’s resignation, and they are already doing so. This is simultaneously a media event and a procedural one. However, it is important to note that no suspicion has been formally announced, and Yermak is not accused of any wrongdoing.

Today, Yermak faces more political risks and problems than criminal ones. It is a difficult decision for both Zelensky and Yermak on how to proceed. In my view, the best option would be for Yermak himself to temporarily step aside during the searches and investigation by submitting a statement relieving himself of all responsibilities. This would relieve tension, especially political tension.
