The EU has approved the allocation of €6.6 billion to Ukraine from the European Peace Fund

European Union member states have agreed on the terms for allocating 6.6 billion euros from the European Peace Fund to support Ukraine.

As part of the agreed-upon package, 900 million euros will be allocated to the EU mission providing military assistance to Ukraine.

Another 1 billion euros is earmarked to finance joint procurements of new weapons and military equipment.

According to Kaja Kallas, the bulk of the package—4.7 billion euros—will be used to reimburse EU member states for the weapons they have already provided to Ukraine.

At the same time, as the head of European diplomacy noted, some EU member states have already announced their intention to transfer their share of the compensation directly to Ukraine.

“This decision is a clear response to Russia’s hybrid attacks, through which Moscow is futilely attempting to intimidate Europe and force it to reduce its assistance to Ukraine,” said Kaja Kallas.

Thus, the total amount of approved funding is 6.6 billion euros, which is to be allocated for military support to Ukraine, the procurement of weapons, and reimbursement to EU member states for military aid already provided to Ukraine.

On September 24, the Council of the European Union approved the eighth tranche of financial aid to Ukraine under the Ukraine Facility initiative. The total amount of the new aid package is €3 billion.

The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump plans to finalize contractual commitments by September 30 for the remaining $93 million of the $400 million that Congress approved for military aid to Ukraine. This is intended to prevent the loss of funds after the end of the fiscal year.
