The EU will allocate €920 million to Ukraine to prepare its energy sector for winter

The European Union plans to provide Ukraine with 920 million euros to restore and strengthen its energy infrastructure ahead of the winter season. This was announced by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

The aid will be used to address the consequences of Russian attacks on energy facilities and to prepare Ukraine’s power grid for the cold season.

“Every winter, the Kremlin has tried to freeze your people in order to subjugate them. It has failed. It failed thanks to the extraordinary resilience of the Ukrainian people and because Europe has stood by you, and will continue to do so,” said the EC President.

She noted that since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, the EU has invested nearly 4 billion euros in energy support for Ukraine.

This year, the EU will provide 920 million for this purpose, von der Leyen stated.

“This will ensure the uninterrupted operation of Ukraine’s energy system during these difficult times, and as we prepare for next winter, our support continues. Just as we did last winter, we are helping to restore, repair, and strengthen Ukraine’s energy infrastructure in accordance with our plan. Whatever happens this winter, we will do everything possible to ensure that Ukrainian homes have light and heat,” she said.

The European Commission President assured that Ukraine can count on the European Union.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen made this statement at a press conference in Kyiv, according to a Ukrinform correspondent.
