Canada was the first country outside Europe to sign the convention establishing a reparations commission for Ukraine

Canada became the first country outside Europe to sign the Convention establishing the International Commission for the Settlement of Claims Concerning Ukraine.

This was announced by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga.

According to him, the commission will be part of an international accountability mechanism designed to ensure compensation for the harm and suffering inflicted on Ukrainians by Russian aggression.

Sybiga thanked Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand for this step.

In turn, Anand stated that the new international mechanism should help hold Russia accountable for the destruction and consequences of its war against Ukraine.

The Canadian government announced the introduction of new restrictive measures against Russia in response to the systematic abduction and forced deportation of Ukrainian children.

Canada’s ruling party supported the abolition of visas for Ukrainians on short-term trips, following the example of EU countries. The decision was adopted at the party convention.
