The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has rejected accusations of involvement in the attacks in Iraq
The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has refuted allegations by Iraq’s National Security Adviser, Qasim al-Abudi, regarding Kyiv’s alleged involvement in illegal activities on Iraqi territory.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that such statements are baseless and unsupported by any evidence. The Ukrainian side rejects any accusations of involvement in such actions.
“There are no facts or evidence to support such accusations, as the Iraqi official himself acknowledged in his interview,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized.
It is noted that prior to these high-profile public statements, the Iraqi side had not conveyed any relevant information or concerns to Ukraine through diplomatic channels.
“If the accusations had any basis whatsoever, it would have been logical to expect precisely this form of communication. Instead, the Ukrainian side learned of the allegations against it during a live television broadcast. We consider it unacceptable and irresponsible for a high-ranking official of a friendly state to publicly make such statements without a proper evidentiary basis. This contradicts the principles of mutual respect and harms Ukrainian-Iraqi relations,” the Foreign Ministry stated.
The ministry emphasizes that Ukraine consistently regards Iraq as an important partner in the Middle East and consistently advocates for the development of mutually beneficial political, economic, and humanitarian cooperation.
“It is noteworthy that these claims coincide with Russian propaganda narratives aimed at discrediting Ukraine and undermining its relations with Middle Eastern countries. It cannot be ruled out that this incident is the result of external information influence or part of a coordinated information and psychological operation aimed at undermining the Ukrainian-Iraqi partnership,” the Foreign Ministry stated.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs calls on official circles in the Republic of Iraq "to respond appropriately to the spread of baseless accusations and to prevent the use of state institutions to relay disinformation that serves the interests of third parties and harms bilateral relations."
Earlier, Iraqi Presidential National Security Advisor Qasim Al-Abudi stated in an interview with Dijlah TV that law enforcement had arrested a “limited number” of individuals who carried out attacks against several targets in Iraq, and that during interrogation they allegedly “confessed to working for Ukraine.” He did not provide any details.
