In the Cherkasy region, a 22-year-old man was convicted of treason
A 22-year-old resident of Uman was sentenced to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property for treason. While carrying out a mission for the Russian intelligence service, he photographed government buildings and a military airfield in the Cherkasy region.
Prosecutors from the Cherkasy Regional Prosecutor’s Office proved in court that in the fall of 2025, the man was recruited via Telegram by an FSB officer from the Krasnodar Krai.
Over the course of a month, he carried out two assignments from his Russian handler. Specifically, he photographed buildings housing regional government offices and an airfield belonging to a military unit.
For completing these tasks, the man received monetary compensation paid to his cryptocurrency wallet.
In January 2026, the man was notified of the charges against him. During the trial, the defendant fully admitted his guilt.
The court found him guilty of high treason (Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) and sentenced him to 10 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.
